Outreach Project ManagerThe British Library Sep 2020 - PresentLeeds, England, United KingdomAs Outreach Project Manager for the British Library, I supported the development of an audience engagement strategy for their Discovering Literature collection, bringing archived material to life through a series of successful and well-attended digital and in-person events. These webinars and workshops have enabled the British Library to share archived material to teachers and students from across the globe, deepening understanding of the social, historical and political context of key works of literature. By building a trusted network of professionals from the academic, arts and cultural sectors, these events have successfully connected audiences to not only poets, authors and playwrights but also spoken-word hip hop artists, comic book illustrators and musicians, in addition to traditional academics, ensuring an accessible and inspiring programme of events for all. Texts include Macbeth, Romeo & Juliet, An Inspector Calls, A Christmas Carol, Jekyll & Hyde and the Power and Conflict poetry anthology. In 2024 my focus moved onto the Discovering Children’s Books collection: various projects run concurrently. I have hosted and curated various live ‘Authors into Schools’ events, providing children with the opportunity to meet, interact and be inspired by their favourite authors such as Michael Rosen, Jasbinder Bilan, Patrice Lawrence and SF Said, engaging in activities to promote a lifelong love of reading and writing for pleasure. In addition to this, I develop and deliver CPD events for primary teachers, demonstrating the vital importance of providing different ways to inspire and engage children – our most recent events have seen Farrah Serroukh discuss the results of CLPE’s Reflecting Realities reports and the importance of ensuring representative and inclusive literature within the classroom, and Professor Teresa Cremin share the impact of providing children with creative agency to increase their motivation when it comes to reading and writing. -
