Artist Statement:I make paintings and mixed media artwork. By applying abstract expressionism to my work, I create intense personal moments. My paintings don’t always have a recognizable form. The results are deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multi-layered. Color and shape play a major part in my paintings as they aid in communicating the story I am trying to tell. Artist Biography:I was born Fiona Jean Lowrie on May 31st in Naples, Italy and grew up in Bay City, Michigan. I’ve also had a love for art, and I began pursuing art as a career in 2016. I had my first art exhibition in April 2017. That experience led me to want to learn more about art. In 2018 I enrolled at Delta College and am currently pursuing my Associates Degree in Art. My inspiration for Abstract painting stems from how I feel, emotions that have been evoked by situations and experienced throughout my life. My inner personal thoughts and feelings are what I use to create each one of my abstract paintings. The colors and shapes that evolve on a canvas became a way for me to express my deepest emotions and thoughts. Emotions are what make us human, the good as well as the bad. When all are brought together within my painting it becomes a message from me to the viewer. The process of painting has offered me a way to direct thoughts and emotions that can at times be difficult to say out loud. I have also come to understand that my art is a very powerful way of communicating with others. My love of Abstract Expressionism also comes from the different ways viewers perceive my work. Even though I am telling a personal story it’s okay if the viewers has their own interpretation of what they see. That is where the magic of art comes through. Ask ten people what they see, and you will get ten different answers. I find this freeing and beautiful.
