I am passionate about helping clients to commercialise Intellectual Property and have specialised in intellectual property and commercial law for over 25 years.I provide advice across a range of sectors including life sciences, IT, industrial markets, academia, and consumer products. Much of the work I do is international in nature and involves both working with UK clients who are commercialising their IP internationally and also assisting clients (or their advisors) who are based overseas in relation to transactions in the UK or involving English or Scottish Law.I represent clients across the spectrum including start up and spinout companies, fast growing SMEs, universities, multinational corporations, public companies and institutions.As well as working for clients, I lecture widely on business and IP related topics. I am a Board Member and Immediate Past President of the Licensing Executives Society International (LESI) and am a Council Member and past President of LES (Britain and Ireland). I am Convener of the Law Society of Scotland’s accreditation panel for intellectual property. I am also honorary Vice President of St Andrews Clinic's for Children. I am also past chair of the Lex Mundi IP Practice Group.Prior to joining Bristows I was a partner and Head of Intellectual Property at Maclay Murray & Spens (MMS) from 1993 to May 2009. MMS is one of Scotland's leading law firms. Whilst at MMS I was instrumental in establishing and managing its IP Department which grew quickly to be recognised as one of the leading IP firms in Scotland. I was a Partner at Bristows for over 11 years between 2009 and June 2020. Bristows is a UK full service law firm headquartered in London which is well known for its work with IP rich clients; much of the firm's business comes from outside of the UK.Over the years I have been recommended for my work in a number of well regarded international legal and IP directories. I was included in the global list of the 50 most influential people in IP by Managing Intellectual Property magazine in December 2019. I was also recently included by the same publication in their list of the Top 250 Women in IP 2020 and as an IP star for transactions, patent strategy and counselling. For a number of years I have been included in the IAM 1000 Patents transactions directory – most recently in 2020.
