Fiona and her team raised public awareness and over £2million for UNHCR’s work with refugees around the world, as well as significant gifts-in-kind worth several £million, often in the face of negative media and public attitudes. Built sustainable corporate and NfP partnerships, establishing the UK’s first Refugee Week, now an annual event of over 20 years.Fiona’s strong management, business development and marketing background was gained initially from 10 years in industry (leisure and fmcg) but in the early 90s, Fiona transferred her skills to the not-for-profit sector. Her roles included consultancy work for IGOs and NGOs; working for Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) developing their corporate partnerships, setting up their in-country fundraising initiative in Ghana, and co-ordinating their East European Partnership (EEP) private sector funding; building business and church clientele for a Christian retreat & conference centre and, just post Ceausescu’s execution, a year's hands-on, front-line voluntary role running a care and construction programme, managing 140 volunteers at a Romanian orphanage.Alongside her executive roles, Fiona has had several non-executive roles including Chair of the UK board of Medair, an international relief and recovery agency, and as a Director of Brandauer, one of the largest contract precision presswork companies in Europe.
