I am assisting 10+ early-stage life sciences companies, in diverse areas (e.g., animal health, biotechnology, breast cancer, dementia, dermatology, digital health). I work with and help the teams develop business development, marketing, and fundraising strategies. Additionally, I conduct scientific and business due diligence and develop presentations for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies of all sizes.

Proteorex Therapeutics' mission is to discover novel therapeutics for diseases with the highest unmet need, pushing the boundaries of drug discovery through innovative and world-class science.On the Proteorex team, under the guidance of the COO, I led the operational strategy at an emerging, biotechnology company. I also worked with the team to develop investor presentations, with the goal of driving fundraising efforts through government-backed (e.g., Ontario Bioscience Innovation Organization) and private sources (e.g., IndieBio). I helped develop relationships and collaboration with J&J Innovation and JLABS @ Toronto. Finally, I conducted business and financial due diligence and deal logistics for R&D collaborations, involving Proteorex’s drug discovery platform technology and programs.

I was the first junior employee (i.e., non-management) to spearhead the identification and signing of a life sciences company to a retainer-based mandate. Excitedly, I was critically involved in helping a speciality pharmaceutical client, of the firm, successfully acquire a well-known schizophrenia drug (CAN/US rights; FTC Transaction No. 20151316). I investigated the Cystic Fibrosis and Heart failure diseases for my PhD thesis – (1) the regulation of ion channel function and brain blood flow; (2) the re-purposing of small-molecule Cystic Fibrosis therapeutics. My work looked at the efficacy of novel drugs both in-vitro and in-vivo. This has now been scaled up to a human model trial testing phase. I performed experiments, developed bio-analytical methods, reviewed data via statistical tools, authored and orally presented scientific reports at internal meetings, authored research findings in peer-reviewed journals, and authored proposals to funding agencies. I conducted research at the Hospital for Sick Children (Sick Kids), Toronto General Hospital, and the MaRS Discovery District. NSERC-funded

Led in-class and online tutorials for an undergraduate course in human physiology (U of T course code: PSL 201, Instructor: Dr. Michelle French), with a class enrolment of approximately 150 students. I also designed questions for tests and exams, invigilated tests and exams, and performed administrative duties for the course instructor.

I investigated the rare genetic disease Cystic Fibrosis for my MSc. thesis in a world-renowned and highly-funded Cystic Fibrosis laboratory. Specifically, I investigated protein and ion channel regulation mechanisms. In this position, I developed two novel fluorescence techniques to detect protein expression and mobility in-vitro. Using these techniques, I discovered that therapeutic drugs in human clinical trials for the Cystic Fibrosis disease normalize the mobility of the most common disease-causing mutant. NSERC-funded.

I was the lead investigator on a large-scale human health study, involving the recruitment and collection of hair samples from over 300 volunteers in the Sudbury region (Northern Ontario). I also designed the experimental protocol and questionnaire. An ICP-MS was used to assess the heavy metal content in the hair samples, and the results were correlated to nutrition, environment, and health factors using statistical tests. Some very interesting correlations were found, as shown in the document attached (Supervisor: Dr. Graeme Spiers).

I worked as an undergraduate research assistant in the Neuromuscular Research Laboratory in the Department of Kinesiology at Laurentian University. I gained experience in molecular biology (e.g., RNA isolation, DNA isolation, PCR, RT-PCR), protein biochemistry, and genotyping of mouse models of muscular dystrophy (Supervisor: Dr. Robin Michel).
