Camp Counselor
I was trusted to take care of youth aged 6-16 in a camp of over 200 campers. As an athletics counselor, I planned, led, and taught basketball, soccer, football, and other athletics and fitness classes. I also helped take inventory of sports equipment. Beyond athletics, I also taught campers to waterski, wakeboard, and kneeboard, driving the boat and managing to get most campers to stand up on the skis. I also took care of a primary cabin of ten 11-year-olds, ensuring each was eating and sleeping well and feeling overall healthy. I also talked to campers to help them through occasional emotional crises, calming them down and making them feel better.I was also team captain for "Earth Team" for Eco, a camp-wide, weekend-long competition consisting of four teams and a multitude of athletic, art, and traditional camp contests. I had to lead and direct over 50 campers and over 10 other staff members. This required strong leader ship and communication to ensure other counselors were doing what they needed to do and to ensure campers were motivated and enthusiastic about the games.
Manager, Women'S Basketball At The University Of Miami Athletics Department
I assisted in managerial duties for the women's basketball team. I helped prep practice by setting up balls, cones, water, sports drinks, towels, practice squad jerseys, and other equipment. During practice, I rebounded and also participated in practice as a practice player. After practices, I would clean up equipment do players' practice jersey laundry. On top of scheduled practices, I was on call for early morning and/or irregular workouts/shootarounds.On gamedays, I would prepare home and away locker rooms with water and gatorade and prepare home and away benches with water, gatorade, and towels. During the game, I had to be ready to do whatever coaches or players asked, hand out towels, water, and gum, and get stats from the stat keeper. After games, I would help prepare post-game meals for caterers, clean up the benches, court, locker rooms, and wash water bottles, and lastly wash, dry, and put away players' uniforms. during, before, and after practices, preparing balls, water, towelsand games. Duties include set up for games/practice, assisting during practices, post practice clean up, and gameday operations (pre/mid/post).
Intern
During this experience, I assisted administrative staff with various tasks. This included translating presentations from English to Chinese for the head manager, as well as running errands such going to print shops to print advertising materials and buying office supplies.Furthermore, I also helped lead a youth fitness summer camp. This summer camp hosted ten to twelve kids per week, aged between 6 and 12. We taught 3 main disciplines: General fitness, boxing, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I aided with demonstrations, teaching techniques, supervising the youth, and managing misbehavior. I also resolved any conflicts or fights between the campers.
