The Transboundary Panel is established pursuant to Chapter 1 (Transboundary Rivers) of the Pacific Salmon Treaty ( https://www.psc.org/publications/pacific-salmon-treaty/ ), and is responsible for overseeing the co-operative (U.S. / Canada) implementation of the Transboundary Chapter which applies to salmon stocks originating from the Canadian portions of the Alsek, Taku and Stikine River watersheds in northwestern British Columbia and southwest Yukon and associated fisheries in southeast Alaska terminal marine and B.C./Yukon in-river areas. The Transboundary Panel is comprised of 14 members, 7 appointed by Canada and 7 appointed by the U.S..

Appointed by the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Canada I will representing Canadian salmon interests within the context of Chapter 16 of the Umbrella Final Agreement with Yukon First Nation Governments, Government of Canada and the Government of Yukon. This is a five-year term and includes an appointment to the Yukon River Panel to assist in negotiating the international salmon treaty (Yukon River Salmon Agreement) between Canada and the US.

Environmental change and human impacts across the Northern Hemisphere are placing salmon at risk. The International Year of the Salmon aims to bring people together to share and develop knowledge more effectively, raise awareness and take action. 2019 is the focal year of the IYS, with research and outreach continuing through to 2022. I am working with the North Pacific group facilitated through the North Pacific Anadromous Fisheries Commission (member countries Canada, US, Korea, Russia and Japan) as their outreach and communications specialist.
