About David O'Connor, Cfre

For 35 years, I have worked in the non-profit sector, both in the field and in the home office. This journey began with 25 years in marketing and fundraising for a major international aid organization. My wife and I were stationed in Europe, Africa, and the United States. Numerous public relations initiatives highlighted these early years and eventually led to management of direct mail, publications, and databases. After acquiring the CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) credential, institutional grant writing and program management were a natural next step. The top year entailed managing a portfolio of 100 foundations with annual revenue of $3 million. Successful grants involved USAID (United States Agency for International Development), DFID (Department for International Development - United Kingdom), and the Rotary Foundation. We participated heavily in VIP event coordination during this time as well. Capital campaign involvement includes a $7.5 million initiative to construct and outfit a medical ship for service in Africa, and a $10.5 million project to refit a ship used in global initiatives focusing on literacy and cross-cultural understanding. Crowdfunding management has involved successful Kickstarter campaigns for historic WWII aircraft totaling close to $500K. Our company coordinates publicity for more than 20 Partner Dinners around the country each year for one of our clients. This year involved creating United Nations funding reports for work in Jordan with Syrian refugees, and US State Department funding proposals for refugees in Turkey. We also work heavily with special focus partner/donor groups such as alumni programs. Creating programs that identify and cultivate major donors are also areas of focus.
