I am finally retired after having worked in newspaper publishing and CEO mentoring and coaching for over 40 years. I was privileged to facilitate or chair two wonderful group of CEOs in the Springfield Missouri and Wausau Wisconsin areas which were part of the VISTAGE Chief Executive Program™. I worked with business owners and CEOs who brought their challenges and opportunities to a group of up to 16 peers. This process allows our members to see the big picture, test ideas, overcome obstacles and seize opportunities in a confidential setting. My biggest satisfaction is seeing these individuals grow and develop both professionally and personally in addition to their companies achieving much success.Previously, I was in the newspaper industry serving as president and publisher at four different daily newspapers across the country. Those newspapers ranged from $25 to $80 million in annual sales. I was able to direct talented teams to achieve record sales and profits at all four newspapers. My most "fun" project was the $30 million addition of a new press facility at Rockford, IL. One of my goals was to leave a newspaper and community better than when I started. I learned that from the Boy Scouts, where you always left a campsite in better condition than you found it. I was involved in various community organizations which helped me stay in touch with the community and helped me move the community forward. I particularly enjoyed economic development where I was chairman of the local organizations in Rockford, IL, Fort Myers, FL, and Springfield, MO. As a result of my community accomplishments, I was formally recognized by the Governors of Illinois, Florida, and Missouri."I'm successful because I'm lucky.
