Please don't talk to me about relocation. I live in Boulder, CO; my wife's job is here, and I'm not about to mess her up for your once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in San Francisco or New York or wherever. For that matter, I'm pretty happy as I am... but I'm willing to talk about other options near Boulder. Not so much about things elsewhere. That out of the way, I'm a senior software engineer, full-stack including JavaScript and Android. I've held management and leadership jobs, and might interested in returning to that with a local-office environment (which I haven't had in a while, which is why I didn't try to keep that role). I code in Kotlin, Java, Go, C/C++, Python, Javascript, and other languages. I'm familiar with many of Google's cloud products, and at least aware of the analogous AWS offerings. I also know Android, and I'm open to learning iOS but haven't yet had to.Outside of work, I juggle, I do woodworking (minor cabinetry and home improvement, mostly), and these days I've swapped out playing flute and ultimate for keeping track of teen children and too dang many pets.

Technical LeadSquare Feb 2018 - PresentSan Francisco, Ca, UsStarted on Square's orders team, adding new features particular for deposit/balance payments to a single order. Moved to Boulder, CO in summer 2018, which also changed to the Mobile Developers' team, where I've taken ownership of their Android SDK products, which allows third-party developers to use Square readers in their own custom apps. Revitalized that product line after a long pause since its first GA, shipping the 1.1 Android release with new features and fixes, and now a much slimmer 2.0 revision which is used internally as well as externally. -
Software EngineerFullstory Jul 2015 - Jan 2018Atlanta, Georgia, UsRejoined a bunch of my ex-Google buddies to work on offerings to provide visibility into user experience on your site... to me, the clearest use case is being able to see what a customer filing a support ticket did to get stuck. Among other things, I implemented most of our system-to-human notifications of both fine-detail and broader-pattern issues, ranging from reporting of our customers' misue of FullStory's Javascript on their sites up to detection of a few common attack patterns and changing trends that suggested probing for XSS or SQL injection attacks, browser compatibility issues, etc. Also developed our support for CSP, integration with partners, retention enforcement, and various other features and issues. -
Principal Member Of The Technical StaffSalesforce.Com Aug 2012 - Jun 2015San Francisco, California, UsDeveloped Aura, Salesforce's open-source web application framework to bridge between customer code stored in server-side databases, through servers using Java or various other Salesforce-specific languages, where customer markup is translated into HTML, Javascript, CSS, and XHR JSON for a web application front end. This is an upgrade path for Salesforce's several existing frontend technologies (Apex, Visual Force, etc.), as well as general-purpose tool made available to all. -
Senior Software EngineerGoogle, Inc Jul 2007 - Jul 2012Mountain View, Ca, UsDesigned and implemented front-end server, version control, and storage schema for an unreleased collaborative product earning rave internal reviews.Implemented and owned several bits of App Engine's Java runtime and SDK (https://developers.google.com/appengine/docs/java/overview), and added various features to Google Web Toolkit (http://developers.google.com/webtoolkit/) compliler and user library.Integrated Google Web Toolkit with internal toolchains, and migrated it from an external open-source product to internally hosted with change-by-change external visibility, reducing test cycle time from 2.5hrs to 10min and allowing easy access to tip-of-trunk features.Awarded a ridiculous 20 awards for my accomplishments and contributions, ranging from one executive operating committee award for corporate impact, one VP-level award for widespread technical impact, engineering-wide "citizenship" awards for housekeeping and support outside my direct groups, and 16 individual peer bonuses for help to other teams. -
Research ScientistGeorgia Tech Research Institute Apr 2003 - Jul 2007Atlanta, Georgia, UsApplied (contract) research post, mostly to government clients, director on ~$1.2M/yr. as well as working several other projects. Highlights include developing "intelligent" (learning) systems for bandwidth allocation and network management/response; re-architecture work to adapt existing systems or merge after acquisitions; scalability evaluations and simulation. Named as system architect in GTRI's bid for DARPA's JUCAS integrator/broker contract, though we're now glad we lost that bid given the politics of it! -
Director Of EngineeringInktomi Aug 1999 - Aug 2002UsContinuation of work from WebSpective, now purchased by Inktomi. Promoted to manager, and eventually director... integrated product suites with Inktomi's and other aquisitions, applied for (and won) multiple patents, trained consulting and tech support staff in product details. Hired, fired, relocated, and laid off employees, backstopped product management across several changes. -
