Warwickshire & Worcestershire Land Management Team Leader

Management of 24 Sites of Special Scientific Interest in North West Worcestershire, including the Wyre Forest. Provide advice to SSSI landowners and stakeholders to recover, maintain and enhance SSSIs in order to meet favourable condition. Issue NE consents, assents and advice under Section 28 of the WCA 1981. Lead on reactive enforcement cases and undertake scheduled enforcement casework within regulatory deadlines.Undertake condition assessment surveys of SSSI notified features. Undertake detailed review of SSSIs for re-notification programme.Support and mentor colleagues on delivery of SSSI work. Lead on training of grassland/woodland ecology and surveying techniques.Management existing HLS & new Countryside Stewardship schemes & customers.Undertake Integrated Site Assessments of existing HLS agreements. Represent Natural England (NE) at public events/external presentations

Provide ecological/ biodiversity advice to all WCC Directorates, external organisations, interested parties or persons.Respond to consultations about new legislation, initiatives, plans and guidance regarding their ecological implications. Develop, prepare, monitor and review environmental and ecological policies, plans and strategies for the Authority including Biodiversity Action Plan and County Council’s own Biodiversity Action Programme; including an audit of County Council functions that impact on biodiversity.Develop county and regional biodiversity data and monitoring mechanisms.Initiate, develop and deliver regional and countywide projects and initiatives.Develop partnerships and represent the County Council at meetings, steering groups, working groups and other fora, e.g. Worcestershire Biodiversity Partnership and Droitwich Canal Restoration Partnership.Effectively manage and supervise consultants and contractors.Have a working knowledge of planning law and practice and natural environment legislation and advise others on ecological matters. Organise, implement and deliver training events for the authority, local groups and partner organisations.Attend and give evidence on behalf of the authority at Examinations in Public/Development Plan Inquiries.Liaise with local authority partners, government and non-government agencies, charities, media, national and local interest groups.Prepare members’ briefing papers, reports to Cabinet and input into reports to the Planning and Regulatory Committee.

Lead on EN business within Teme Valley JCA and lead responsibility for 8 SSSIs in Herefordshire & Worcestershire.Liaise with SSSI owners and ensure compliance. Set up management agreements and contracts for SSSIsManage information, update databases and GIS mapping.Respond to planning casework including protected species and enquiries from the public.SSSI notification, surveying and drafting of notification packages.Draw up conservation objectives and carry out condition assessments.
