Colin leads the firm's design of residential and commercial projects. He is responsible for cultivating Flavin Architects' unique style of Natural Modernism, where sustainable design and respect for a building’s context come together with a cutting-edge aesthetic. He excels at understanding client aspirations and bringing their projects to life. In a world of computer-generated design work, he is an avid sketch artist, continually hand-drawing interesting buildings or architectural details that will expand his repertoire and become a reference for his design work. Colin received his Masters of Architecture from MIT, where he was awarded the Chamberlain Prize for Design Excellence. Prior to founding Flavin Architects in 1991, he was an Associate at Benjamin Thompson & Associates, working as a designer on Union Station in Washington, D.C. and South Street Seaport in New York, as well as some of the firm's unique beach houses on Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod. Under his stewardship, Flavin Architects has won multiple state and national design awards and the firm's work has appeared in a number of publications. “Our own architectural office exemplifies my approach to design, where sustainability and beautiful modern style exist hand in hand. Visitors remark at our day-lit space and crisply detailed natural materials, while unobtrusive technology allows us to use less than a third the energy of comparable spaces. We’re always striving to find new approaches to attain this ideal of sustainability wed with beauty.” Colin FlavinSpecialties: Residences, built with natural materials that respect their context and provide a creative and spiritual environment for our clients.Commercial Office Buildings and Interiors, designed to foster creativity and collaboration to help New England’s innovative companies flourish.
