Associate ProfessorUniversity Of Advancing Technology Aug 2013 - Jun 2014Tempe, Az• Graduate Coordinator. Helped establish curriculum and project requirements for new graduate school program at UAT.• Developed and taught graduate class in digital image processing (using OpenCV) and neural control of devices using EEG signals.• Developed and taught a graduate course on sensation & perception for engineering students.• Developed and taught undergraduate Python programming class.• Taught undergraduate classes in sociology, beginning drawing, and 3D modeling. -
Post Doc Independent ResearcherArizona State University May 2013 - Jul 2013Rochester, MnINTERESTS: neuro-prosthetics, neuro-rehabilitation, neural modeling, self-organization in dynamic systems, robotics and sculpting, sustainable living, renewable energy, educational software development, home improvement. -
Graduate Research/Teaching AssistantArizona State University Aug 2002 - Jun 2013My responsibilities included developing and conducting experiments using electroencephalograph (EEG) Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) to explore motor learning transfer. Trained participants to control a cursor by using abstract (disembodied) motor imagery, as well as embodied motor imagery homologous to the physical task. Demonstrated that motor learning transfer is due to shared neural infrastructure rather than other cognitive processes such as attention or arousal.• Used an artificial neural network to map EEG signals into machine commands. Network inputs were spectrograms derived from short time interval FFTs. Network performed as good as, and some ways better than proprietary method developed by Emotiv, Inc.• Developed and taught Sensation & Perception course to ASU undergraduates. Developed & presented course materials (demos, lectures, study guides, tests) and evaluated students’ mastery of the material.Activities and Societies: Research assistant for Sensory Motor Research Group. Designed chambers to secure electrodes to monkey’s head, assembled necessary equipment and apparatus, developed software, performed craniotomies, implanted electrodes, and trained macaque to sit motionless. Attempted to teach macaque to use neural signals to control the cursor. The goal was to exploring neural plasticity and motor learning.

EngineerIntel Corporation Jan 1990 - May 1998Portland Or, And Chandler, AzParticipated in the development and deployment of various products and manufacturing automation projects. User-Machine Interface for Test Equipment in Circuit Board Repair Cell: Developed and implemented machine-operator interface between electronic test equipment and repair workstations. Defects detected by test equipment were displayed in a graphical interface to facilitate repair and tracking of manufacturing defects. Assembly Document Creation and Retrieval Systems: Conceived, developed, and implemented an automated assembly instruction generation and retrieval system for an build-to-order manual assembly operation. The PC-based system compiles, displays and prints assembly, packaging, test, and other manufacturing documentation complete with up-to-the-minute engineering notes. The system not only resulted in significant time savings and error reduction, but also made possible a build-to-order business model. Database Interface: Conceived and developed software to assist engineers in coordinating information between engineering and manufacturing databases. This resulted in a five-to-tenfold engineering productivity increase. Product Introduction: Participated in the new product development, design-for-manufacturability, and ensured factory readiness for the assembly of various desktop computer products. Automated X-Ray Inspection System: Responsible for an x-ray inspection project which included requirements specification, corporate partner selection, equipment development, development of pattern recognition strategies, acceptance testing, installation, and production personnel training. -
