I was a research assistant for a research project into the use, purpose and preservation of Social Science Data Archives. This was a qualitative study, relying mainly on interviews of professionals and academics who use, manage and maintain these archives.My main duties were to transcribe interviews, code transcripts of interviews, conduct secondary research and literature reviews, and help with editing and proofreading the abstract and paper.The research lead to a published poster at the 2014 Berlin iConference.

Richview Library & Veterinary Science Library

A two semester, part-time position in the UCD Richview and Veterinary Sciences libraries. Duties have included:• Re-shelving and storage of various library materials.• Retrieval and return of items from the library’s external storage facility.• Checking circulation figures for short term items.• Searching catalogue for Duplicate items for donations.

A year long, full-time position within the Department of Printed books. The aim of the role was to help me gain the experience that is necessary to undertake an MLIS programme. I worked in several sections to gain a broad overview of potential roles.• Cataloguing using the Library Management System (VTLS/Virtua) for the periodicals section. This includes creating new records and altering existing ones. • A member of the Collection Care and Access (CCA) team. Collecting and delivering items for readers from on site book stacks and off-site storage and ensuring their safe return and re-shelving. This also involved a project to find or replace missing volumes from the library catalogue. • Creating and entering new prediction patterns for the current serials in the library. • Checking various sales and auction catalogues for rare books and periodicals. • Updating intake statistics for the periodicals section• Placing and receipting new orders for legal deposit. • Processing new books for cataloguing. • Updating metadata on the digital photographs using ContentDM. • Keeping count and arranging of uncatalogued ephemera collections in the Prints & Drawings department.
