Hi! My name is Fletcher Cavanagh, and I was born and raised in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, sharing a home with my parents and two sisters. I recently graduated summa cum laude from Northeastern University, receiving both my B.S. and M.S. in mechanical engineering with a conc. in mechatronics. While pursuing my M.S., I was awarded a certificate in engineering leadership from the Gordon Institute for completing my challenge project at Walmart Advanced Systems and Robotics (WASR). Here, I designed several software packages that allowed engineers and a mobile robot's real-time control logic to leverage dynamic models in their workflows. My work provided time and cost savings for WASR engineers, and created a foundation for the design and implementation of model-based control laws. Completing this project provided me with valuable skills and lessons that have made me a more capable engineer and leader. More information on my project can be found on my portfolio, linked above.I'm interested in a career in the robotics industry, with a focus on the modeling and control of mobile robots. I've decided on robotics because I enjoy the challenge of its technical depth. I love the small wins along the way, and can't help but grin when I see a robot doing what I asked it, very nicely, to do. An ideal position for me is one where I get to use my brain, hands, and keyboard. For example - designing a control law, testing its performance on hardware, and analyzing the data offline with control theory to determine performance characteristics like bandwidth and gain margin. This ability to experiment, test, and analyze gives me a strong sense of agency and initiative that makes my work much more enjoyable. Outside of engineering, I like to spend time working with my hands, playing chess, cooking, and supporting New York sports teams ending in -ets. I love trying new things, whether it be a food, hobby, or sport, and getting out of my comfort zone. Please feel free to connect and reach out with any questions!
