In 2022 I graduated from the BSc Psychobiology at the University of Amsterdam and started with the MSc Molecular Neurosciences track at the University of Amsterdam. During the BSc Psychobiology, I followed an internship at the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience under the supervision of Evgenia Salta, during which I looked into the role of NACC2 in neuronal stem cell fate determination under physiological conditions and Alzheimer's Disease. This fits well with my interest in molecular and cellular neuroscience research both physiological and in neurodegenerative diseases. During the Masters I followed an animal course and 2 research projects. During the first internship I optimized a ChIP-seq protocol and during the second internship I worked with spatial omics techniques on sectioned mouse tissue. During the final 2 months of the masters I will write a literature review about aging in adult neuronal stem cells.

Research Project 1Swammerdam Institute For Life Sciences (Sils), University Of Amsterdam Dec 2022 - Dec 2023Amsterdam, North Holland, NetherlandsFrom December 2022 up until December 2023 I worked on a project in the Molecular Neuroscience lab under supervision of Prof. Dr. Marten Smidt and PhD student Matthijs Lingl. During this internship position I optimized a ChIP-seq protocol to profile histone modifications, such as methylated H3K79, in Neuro2a cells. Additionally, I also looked into the effects of increased levels of these histone modifications on molecular processes in these cells, such as apoptosis. -
StagiaireNederlands Herseninstituut Feb 2022 - Jun 2022Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, NederlandDuring this 5 month period internship at the neurodegeneration and neurogenesis lab (Salta lab), I focused on the role of NACC2, a target of microRNA-132, in the regulation of neuronal stem cell fate determination under physiological conditions and in Alzheimer's disease. During this internship I learned to work with human immortalized cell cultures, and learned how to perform RNA extractions, reverse transcript PCR, semi-quantitative real-time PCR, immunofluorescence staining and fluorescence microscopy. I also performed an in silico meta-analysis. Finally, I wrote a thesis and presented my research at the University of Amsterdam.
