At Cancer Education Project (CEP), we empower communities in South Sudan with knowledge and resources to reduce the burden of preventable cancers through awareness, early detection, treatment support, and advocacy.

Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in collaboration with the U.S. Agency for International Development, AlignMNH works in partnership with global and country-based organizations to meet the SDG targets for maternal and newborn health, and prevention of stillbirths.

Published articles promoting learning and education around wellbeing and mental health topics on the MyUNFPA DHR Community page platform with a global reach and audience of all internal UNFPA. Reviewed Coursera well-being and mental/emotional health resources to define a curated program offering.Reviewed and selected LinkedIn Learning courses and certificates for a curated pathway available to all UNFPA.Supported the creation of people strategy programs, initiatives, documents, communications. Participated in working groups, e.g., related to UNFPA’s new people strategy, special /cross-cutting projects. Supported knowledge management, e.g., developing / updating documents and resources, developing FAQs in consultation with HR Business Partners, editing DHR’s internal websites, responding to queries received through corporate service (help) desk. Provided logistical support to the team(s), e.g., preparation and logistics for (virtual) events, webinars, meetings, and skill development initiatives.

Manage a classroom of toddlers ages 18-36 months. Plan and implement lessons and daily activities to ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of all the children, and manage student records including extra-curricular activities. Supervise an assistant, coordinate programs within the organization, and collaborate with parents to ensure they are up to date with school activities/programs.

Responsible for reaching out to patients diagnosed with COVID-19 to learn about their medical history, people they may have had close contact with, and provide information and guidance to interrupt and reduce the spread of the disease. Used a web-based platform and telephone to communicate with assigned contacts, obtain symptom information, refer contacts for testing, and provide instructions for quarantine.

Manager for Preventive Services under Children and Family Services (CFS) in New York. Work entailed ensuring that children are in safe and protective environments in both homes and schools. Worked closely with parents, teachers, and social workers who were responsible for the welfare of these children. Provided quality assurance, ensuring that case records were accurate, up to date, and ready for audit including administrative operations. Managed records assessment and follow-up for each child.

Worked remotely to support advocacy and mobilization of resources for humanitarian and women’s rights national organizations in Uganda and South Sudan. Work entailed supporting program priorities for refugees and displaced persons including women and children in both countries and involved attending advocacy meetings, networking, and developing a framework to monitor deliverables for each country program and sharing progress. Supervised, evaluated, and provided direction to five staff in the areas of child and maternal health, nutrition, and water sanitation and hygiene.

Compiled, analyzed, and conducted a desk review of data on adult mortality in developing countries both from aggregated summary tabulations and microdata upon data availability. Updated and assessed data on adult mortality from a range of data sources (civil registration, census, and survey) and contributed to populating an internal database to disseminate empirical adult mortality evidence for further public use and research. Developed and tested new statistical and computational demographic methods to standardize age distributions, evaluate data quality and death registration, and identify gaps in existing demographic data on population and vital statistics. Generated reports and examined trends of outcomes in urban and rural areas.

Provided public health education to newly arriving refugees including basic hygiene and sanitation, the importance of seeking preventive medical services, and early health care seeking in case of ill-health. Taught beneficiary’s basic literacy skills (i.e., reading alphabet letters, forming the letters, and pronunciation), as part of the life skills activities for new arrivers.
