I was the Parent (Manager) of one of the 5 homes ran by Helping Children Grow (HCG). We cared for Abused, Neglected and Abandoned Children. The home I supervised was for the physical challenged.. Each home had a total of 4 clients at a time.. I worked as a Relief Parent, who took care of different homes in the agency while the parents were away. until I was placed in this home. In this home, were 3 individuals in wheelchairs and one autistic child with ages ranging from 5 years to 15 years old. As one child would age out(reach age of 21) or return to their family or be adopted; another child would be placed so that there were always 4 individuals in the home. You did everything that you would normally do in your home with your own children and sometime even more..They attended school, went to church, out to dinner and had chores of course.I really enjoyed this work so much until when I retired after 25+ years of service, I adopted the three individuals that was in the home at the time. The fourth individual had not been placed because I had put in for my retirement.
