I grow top-line revenue in commercial banking. How?- By constantly generating and presenting new business ideas targeted to specific customer needs. Clients should describe their financial problem and banks should solve it. It’s as simple as that. Put differently: I don’t try to sell specific financial products, I try to meet the customers’ needs.- By closing concrete opportunities and “getting things done”: Is there actually anything else than speed and reliability to differentiate yourself in commercial banking?- By communicating on successes: I love writing and presenting – in English, French, and German.Qualified in finance and law, I focus on what will be left of commercial banking after Fintech and AI:- Capital: To finance you need capital (in the right currency, maturity, and amount) and manage risk. This is what banks have and Fintech / AI don’t.- Relationships: Retail customers might not need a bank anymore. But companies are different. Their needs are more complex and change over time. I believe that a reliable relation (including humans on both sides) is and will still be worth something in commercial banking.- Regulation: Financing the economy is vital for society. That’s why Governments regulate the sector and that’s also why we will always need people in banks to interpret and apply such complex regulation. AI will never take that over. Why? Because we don’t want to be governed by AI.While my recent experience is in export, trade & working capital finance, I have a broader track record in various commercial banking products and their interaction with corporate strategy and KPI. I have developed commercial banking businesses and managed small front office teams in Europe and in the U.S. Across reporting lines, I have also led larger groups to drive project work to the intended business success.I have a particular interest in technology: In 2008, I closed my bank accounts with my brick & mortar bank and opened accounts with an online bank (With hindside, that was a strange timing given that the financial crisis was about to break out...). In 2010 I started buying and transferring Bitcoin (not to invest but to understand how the blockchain works in practice). In 2019, I started on AWS (not because I needed an IT platform but to learn how the integration of data across platforms and software works). And since 1 year, I play with Chat GPT, Copilot, and Gemini…Finally, I love non-transactional activities and regularly organize, animate, and participate in round-tables, conferences, and business lunches.
