Launch System Principal Safety Engineer For European Space Agency

In ESA's Space Transportation department, key responsibilities:• Defining and verifying safety requirements for launch vehicle processing, payload preparation, pad activation & launch operations in compliance with range safety rules• Assessing compliance of the Launch System to International Space regulations, Space Debris Mitigation policy, Space Act, environmental codes, pyrotechnic / ECSS regulations.• Conducting system safety analysis and reports for rocket and ground segment hazardous systems, covering both ground activities & in-flight mission (FMECA, hazard analysis, fault tree analysis...).• Identifying, analysing, and mitigating potential hazards and risks associated with Launch System operations • Launch licensing - Coordinating the safety team in charge of elaborating ground & launch authorization requests. Leading meetings with Launch Site Range Safety, Launch Operator and Government agencies until launch permit & authorizations granted.Main achievements:• Lead development of safety dossier to acquire the launch license and launch approval for the new launcher, Vega-C maiden qualification flight,• Provided real-time support to critical and hazardous operations during Vega launch campaign operations (Vega mission with more than 50 payloads).• Implement in-depth root cause analysis following the Vega mission anomalies and identified recovery actions, directly contributing to the successful return-to-flight.• Perform the role of the Launch System Safety Official for launch campaigns as a final go/no-go to start hazardous activities and proceed with final launch chronology.• Lead workshops, training courses with UK Space Agency and Civil Aviation Authority to develop their expertise in regulating and licensing launch operations.• Establish safety regulations applicable to the first European orbital module re-entering and landing in Europe (Space Rider) in coordination with European Aviation Safety Agency and French Space Agency.
