At Ballad, I have had the opportunity to design and build economic models from the ground up. The models are able to use various data sources to estimate sub-provincial GDP and regional labour market indicators such as unemployment, labour demand and labour supply, all on a municipal level. I have used these models to carry out economic analysis and forecasting to provide the consulting team and our clients with robust assessments of the economy they operate in. During my time at Ballad, I have contributed to multiple labour market studies. My role in these studies is to use my models to provide unique economic indicators and to write an economic assessment of the state of the economy, addressing everything from the labour market to the structure of the economy. I also provide research into sources of economic growth over the longer-term. However, the work is not just limited to empirical desk research. I have gotten the chance to go out into these communities to present my findings and collect qualitative data to inform our recommendation. All this data informs me and the consulting team when we write recommendations to create a more sustainable labour force in their communities.In my role I support not just the consulting team but also the rest of the company. This includes the assessments of economic indicators, keeping taps on international developments, and shifts in federal and provincial policy to understand labour markets and macroeconomic trends. My role included data collection of economic indicators (e.g., GDP, labour market indicators, consumer prices) and academic research to include in research projects, business plans, labour market analysis and to inform internal decision making.
