About Floris Van Alkemade
Made a personal pivot in 2018 by quitting my VC career and becoming an entrepreneur helping healthcare organizations become more efficient. After my studies Operations Research and a few years in consulting, investment banking and business development in telecoms, I started in venture capital in 1997. Co-founded/managed 4 VC funds with EUR 370M committed capital. Invested in 60+ seed and early stage IT and telecoms companies in Western Europe and the US. Became board member at numerous tech startups, Forward Inc and reed quintet Calefax and started making angel investments in social impact ventures. Co-founded Elanza in 2018 and joined as a director in 2019. Love my wife and 2 daughters; passionate about (kite)surfing, kungfu, traveling and cooking.

We made 18 early stage IT and telecoms investments in Europe. By 2000 we raised our second fund of EUR 260M. In the meantime, we increased our team of 3 partners to 20 investment professionals and opened offices in Stockholm and Palo Alto. In the course of 2 years we added another 20 early stage IT investments, also in the US, that we actively managed with dedicated business development teams. I managed the Palo Alto offices till the burst of the bubble. We then not only closed down our foreign offices, but pro actively restructured our team back to 3 partners and downsized our fund size.We built some great companies during that period with great returns, like Versatel (Euronext:VRSA), Oxxio (LSE:CNA), ITMasters (NYSE:BMC), DataCenterTechnologies (NASDAQ: SYMC), Dedigate (AMEX:TWW), Scarlet (Belgacom).Unfortunately not all of them were successes like these. But the good thing of the failures was that they have provided me very valuable insights and lessons learned, knowledge that I use and pass to next generation of companies I get involved with.
