I design and develop engaging, standards-aligned instructional content for middle school English, drawing on expertise from K-4 and middle school teaching environments. Teaching in the public school system equipped me with opportunities to analyze data, clearly define learning objectives, and create structured step-by-step actionable plans to reach desired goals. As grade level chair, I met three times a week with my team to recognize student needs, alter lessons to adapt to various learners, and put into action lessons to drive learner knowledge and skill development. Working with a mixed student base of lower and middle income, our efforts resulted in exponentially increased academic scores by four times previous metrics across 90 days. In addition to this leadership, I also mentored several teachers as well as being the supervisor for a student in the local university's master's of education program.

Have you ever seen the movie, We Bought a Zoo? Although I didn't buy a zoo, I did feel like the main character in that film...but with a school! After being hired to teach at this school, I realized the great undertaking of everything involved with a start up. I jumped in with both feet! As a team, we launched the business, using best practices to implement internal operations and to research and select STEM and hands-on engaging curriculum for the K-6 school. The school's reputation grew and within four years, our base went from 0 to multiple hundred. I loved collaborating and working across groups to provide and implement feedback at each phase. Again, it wasn't a zoo, but it was a challenge! This experience demonstrated how much a few people could accomplish if they all work together.
