Jun 2017 - Sep 2017

Director

Sheffield, United Kingdom

Founded and developed a start-up bottled cider business. Having undertaken trial brews and detailed research by meeting owners of Orchard Pig and other cider brands developed a business model that outsourced the actual brewing. Instead we sourced apples by visiting suppliers in Somerset, arranged from juicing to pasteurisation and transport to a cidery for brewing to our own specification. Once brewed the cider was matured in Sheffield and then transported on for bottling. We undertook labeling ourselves with our own equipment. Key achievements:Branding – Researched the market and developed the Ciderbeast brand. Ciderbeast was aimed at a target market of 18-30 year old’s and used intentionally contemporary imagery. The cider itself was called Feral Nancy. Legislation – developed a thorough understanding of the legislative framework governing the brewing and sale of cider. Obtained a retail license and temporary events licences when needed.Sales – Developed the business through sale to pubs, restaurants, off licences and wholesalers. Negotiated sales against a know cost of production and desired margin. Customers were largely in the Sheffield area, but also included RAF Cranwell and selected London bars.Account management Events – Organising events in collaboration with various venues and markets to increase awareness of our brand. Developed basic business administration and finance functions for invoicing, VAT, cash management and collection.Feral Nancy was the weeks best selling bottled drink in key off-licences.Ciderbeast made a profit in its first full year of trading (turnover £12000) and fully repaid its start-up loans.
