Supply Scottish Uplands Research Assistant
I was the principle investigator in a research project reviewing the biodiversity impacts of various forms of land management in UK uplands, such as grouse moor management, hill farming, afforestation, and peatland restoration. The review highlights a widespread consensus in the scientific literature regarding the positive impacts of muirburn and legal predator control. It also demonstrates crucial knowledge gaps regarding heather cutting as an alternative to muirburn, permanent native-woodland creation, and peatland restoration. The results of the review will be published in a peer-reviewed paper. I was also involved in field work, such as Mountain hare and Red grouse counts on Scottish Highland estates.

I was in charge of the rearing of all red-legged partridge on the farm (ca. 100,000). I maintained rearing sheds and runs, oversaw feeding regimes and administered medication and liaised with vets. I was also involved in operations relating to pheasants, such as bitting and catching for delivery. In anticipation of the shooting season, I prepared release sites, released birds and controlled predators.
