CurrentCarter Machinery has served SW Virginia and southern West Virginia as the local Caterpillar Dealership since 1952. In 1988 Carter Machinery expanded to cover nearly all of Virginia with 26 stores now in operation. With Salem, Va as headquarters, the Salem Recon is responsible for the complete rebuild and recondition of Cat engines and transmissions for our customers in the mining, construction and forestry industries. Our new 17,000 sq ft, state of the art hydraulic shop handles the complete recondition of various manufacturer's hydraulic components. The machine and welding shops complete detailed machine work and major welding on Cat machines and various other manufacturer's equipment. They also serve many other customers around the area for their various machining needs. All of our engines, drivetrain components and hydraulic components are dyno tested to ensure Caterpillar and Carter Machinery's strict standards are met.I am responsible for the supervision of 27 highly trained technicians on 2nd shift that do the work necessary to keep our customer's equipment down time to a minimum. Tracking time standards, evaluating personnel, meeting customer commitment dates, ensuring safe work practices, monitoring work center budgets and keeping tooling updated and safe are a few of my responsibilities.
