Lafayette College Senior Interviewer
I was selected along with 25 other students to conduct interviews for high school seniors who are interested in attending or learning more about Lafayette College. I assisted Lafayette College's Admissions Office in creating the next cohort of students for the graduating class of 2026. Aside from this, I was able to share my own Lafayette experience with the students at the time of their interviews.
Lafayette College Office Of Intercultural Development Student Ally
I was given the opportunity to work as one of the Student Coordinators for the Lafayette College Office of Intercultural Development. The purpose of my job is to help bridge the gap between multicultural student organizations and the staff and faculty of the Office of Intercultural Development. Not only did I work to encourage constant communication from both ends, but I also assisted in overseeing the needs the student organizations have in order to ensure they have the resources they require. In addition, I facilitated different workshops for the campus on a variety of topics. These workshops touched base on important issues affecting the student body on campus and providing solutions to how we can come together as a whole to support one another. Thus, emphasizing the importance of community organizing and raising awareness to educate people about different issues affecting a number of individuals.
Lafayette College Communications Division Student Videographer
I was recruited to work as a student videographer for the Communications Division of Lafayette College. The communications team has allowed me to produce, film, and edit my own videos based off of what the college experience looks like from a student’s perspective on campus. Since the Fall of 2019, I have had the pleasure of working with communications and talking back and forth about the possible video I could work on. These videos are published online for the Lafayette community to view and see what campus life is all about.
Lafayette College Center For Community Engagement
My tasks as a Program Coordinator for the Landis Center for Community Engagement at Lafayette College consists of having meetings with all the other coordinators on staff, my assigned team, and check-ins with the Assistant Director of Landis. I need to provide updates on the progress of my community service program, as well as setting goals that are aligned with the program's vision and mission. For this reason, I also need to stay in contact with my community partner to see if there are ways to implement new initiatives or other methods of assistance to the community members we are helping. I coordinate a weekly tutoring program (Mary Meuser Library Homework Helpers) located at the local Mary Meuser Library and provide homework help services with the team of volunteers I recruited. We welcome any K-12 students who come in with assignments and projects they may need guidance in completing. Aside from this, I collaborate with other coordinators who are in charge of organizing a community service events for the campus. We all work out logistics, send out emails to specific individuals, and see what are other ways we can partner up with other organizations who can help co-sponsor the event.
Social Studies Teacher
This summer internship helped me learn more about what it means to be an educator and how to better prepare myself in case I plan on obtaining a teacher career. I was able to receive training in classroom management and how to further develop skills in time management and prioritization. Apart from this, I served as a translator whenever we needed to communicate with parents who could only speak Spanish. I was an instructor for an 8th grade social studies class that focused on the Latinx community and the issues affecting these individuals. I made sure to also emphasize how the issues of immigration and education inequity affect different people, while guiding my students in learning how to help these different communities. I gained a new experience by working with middle school-age children, and had the chance to establish personal relationships with my students. I was not only their instructor, but also their mentor. Another class I was in charge of teaching was an elective film course. The students in the class varied from 6th - 8th grade and one of the main objectives was to put in practice basic directing, filming, and editing skills. Furthermore, what was also incorporated in the curriculum was to educate students on media representation and how they could continue to use the media as a platform to encourage inclusivity instead of exclusivity. I formed part of the Celebration Committee and was in charge of producing the video that highlighted all the moments students and their teachers experienced during the summer. It was a combination of videos and pictures put together depicting the bonds we had created with them and what they had learned over the course of six-weeks worth of learning. Moreover, I worked logistics out with my committee in terms of catering, buying decorations, and how to make sure families received the information.
