About Fanny Ortega
I have over 13 years of experience in teaching and curriculum development in a public school setting. I am currently looking to branch out of the classroom and public education. I have extensive experience in working with various learning management systems such as Google Classroom and Canvas. I also continuously look at data to improve my assessments as well as my curriculum. As a department lead I worked with 16 to 21 teachers at a time to collaborate and vertically align curriculum and create common formative assessments to improve student achievement. I consistently communicate with adults and adolescents alike in group settings as well as individually. I have excellent reading, writing, and editing skills, and I consistently work to improve my skills through professional development, research, and listening to those who have achieved mastery in their fields. I am open to trying news systems and strategies, but I also have developed systems that achieve the goals intended.

High School English Teacher/Franklin High School
CurrentI create and deliver effective English Language Arts curricula to high school students that meet Oregon State Standards for English Language Arts. The curriculum is engaging, relevant, and meets students’ diverse learning needs and represents the diverse ethnic, religious, and racial backgrounds that make up the student body. I created, and still teach, a junior level English Course, Women’s Literature and Social Issues, whose sections have grown 25% each year since its inception in 2018 due to active recruiting efforts and a rigorous and relevant curriculum. I am able to adapt and scaffold lessons to ensure that, on average, 80% of my 150 to 175 students each year pass 10th or 11th grade English. I serve as a model and mentor teacher for new and struggling teachers to observe due to my well-paced, organized, relevant, engaging lessons and collaborative classroom.
Department Lead/Franklin High School
I managed a department of 16 to 21 English teachers to vertically align curriculum in our department. We worked toward creating common formative and summative assessments and rubrics across grade levels. I ensured that the department worked collaboratively to evaluate the effectiveness of the common assessments and rubrics so as to improve the quality of assessments to raise achievement among our traditionally underserved students. I recruited a team of 5 English teachers from our department to create a scope and sequence for each grade level that included common texts and standards each grade level must teach and assess. As a result, students were able to move from one grade level to the next having been exposed to common texts and terms, building upon learned skills and concepts in a methodical manner. Under my leadership, the department was able to improve overall student achievement.
Director Of Operations/Co-Owner
I created and implemented operating procedures for up to 7 employees; wrote employee’s contracts; established a weekly schedule; created a substitution policy if employees could not teach a class; and I managed payroll. I created members’ contracts and waivers of liability, as well as managed clients’ membership and fees. I wrote a business plan that allowed us to receive funding for our gym in order to begin operations. While co-owner, I helped to increase membership by advertising on sites such as Groupon, creating a clean and welcoming environment, and hiring knowledgeable and personable trainers.
