I am a partner in the Ottawa office of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, one of Canada’s leading business law firms. I practise in the area of intellectual property (IP) law, with expertise in the protection and enforcement of copyright, trademarks, and domain names. My practice also includes advising clients on IP issues arising from corporate and commercial transactions, such as mergers and acquisitions, public and private financings, and licensing matters.In my copyright practice, I act on behalf of rights holders and users engaged in litigation, administrative proceedings, and commercial matters involving complex issues of copyright law, including the use of music for public performances, educational use of copyright-protected works, and artists’ exhibition and reproduction rights and the provision of professional services in the visual arts. I am a registered trademark agent before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) and advise domestic and foreign companies on trademark clearance, prosecution, opposition, acquisition, licensing, and litigation. My clients include some of the most recognized Canadian and international brands across a broad range of industries, including fashion, hospitality, media & entertainment, wine & spirits, pharmaceuticals, and professional sports.As a litigator and advocate, I have acted or appeared as counsel before the Copyright Board of Canada, Trademarks Opposition Board, Federal Court, Federal Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court of Canada. My experience includes a secondment as Associate Counsel to Re:Sound Music Licensing Company, the Canadian not-for-profit collective society representing thousands of artists and record companies. I have co-authored several publications and I am a frequent speaker in the areas of trademarks and copyright law.
