(www.publix.com) is a Fortune 500 food retailer in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee.Fon came to Publix as an entry-level programmer. In his first assignment on the HR Employee system, Fon developed and maintained applications using COBOL, CICS, IMS, VSAM and OS/390 JCL.In 2000 Fon moved to the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) team. In the EDW team Fon’s first assignment was that of an ETL (Extract, Transform & Load) analyst and developer. Those initial ETL applications were built using COBOL, DB2, VSAM and OS/390 JCL. The Load jobs were written using ESCON channel-attached syntax into a Teradata RDBMS.The EDW team was completed via staff from Teradata and Infosys. In addition to analysis, design, development, code and unit test responsibilities, Fon acted as coordinator and liaison between the team members.In 2004, Fon was the development lead in the effort to incorporate DataStage as an ETL tool. Beginning with DataStage version 7.5.1.a, then version 7.5.3 and finally version 8 Fon designed, developed and unit tested DataStage ETL applications for the EDW. DataStage ETL applications extract data from various platforms (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata, MQ and flat files) and load various platforms ((DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata).In 2006, Fon was dubbed the leader of the EDW Production Support team. By then, staffing of the EDW team was composed of Publix associates. While leading the EDW Production Support team Fon continues to use a coaching approach to leadership. This method simultaneously encourages team members to invoke and develop their own analytic skills, which leads to a sense of accomplishment and ownership.Fon is currently a Senior Systems Analyst, and continues to lead the EDW Production Support team. -
Jazz BassWayne Pearson Trio 1999 - 2002Wayne Pearson (http://jazzpulse.com) has been a jazz musician and bandleader in Tampa, FL for decades.In 1999, Fon joined the Wayne Pearson Jazz Trio, playing double bass. During the 3+ year stint at the Café Creole (an eternity in jazz musician years) Fon developed his arco solos on the double bass. The concept was to bring the arco solos of the jazz violin, best epitomized by Stephane Grappelli, to the double bass.In the post-9/11 economic downturn, the Café Creole closed, ending Fon’s engagement with the Wayne Pearson Jazz Trio.

Fon operated the mainframe for the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser’s Office alone so their entire I/T staff could work during the day to deploy a Y2K-compliant property tax system.In late 1999, the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser’s Office deployed a Y2K-compliant property tax system. As a result, Fon brought down their mainframe for the last time.
