Animator & Rigger

Supermono Studios

Unannounced Title (iOS)My responsibilities included rigging and animating multiple characters on a single rig for a new iOS game. Once the rig was signed off by the Art Lead, I started animating. This was a new experience for me as the animations were for a 2D character, but these made for a great addition to my skillset. I really enjoyed working at Supermono as I have learnt so much more about iOS game development, and that you can utilise rigs in new and exciting ways.

Animator & Artist

Hot Sauce Interactive

‘Catcha Catcha Aliens’ (iOS)I was employed by Jonathan Ross’ company; Hot Sauce Interactive, to model various customisable outfits, rig one of the main characters, creating multiple idle and facial animations, as well as doing a little voice acting work! It was great fun coming up with themes and ideas for props and costumes for the characters, and I liked the variety of work. I also enjoyed recording some voice overs for the female character that shipped with the final game alongside Jonathan Ross and Stephen fry. It was a great experience working with a small team, and I learned a lot throughout.

Animator

'Fable: The Journey' (Xbox 360, Kinect)On Fable: The Journey I continued with my role as a Rigger, but having impressed with my Fable 3 and Fable Heroes animation work I was given much more to animate. We learnt how to integrate motion capture into our pipeline and edit the animation in Motion Builder. We still used keyframe for specific animations that couldn’t be mocapped, and I was responsible for the in-game ‘Hero Hands’ interaction animations, working closely with the design team to get the animations blending and working well in-game, whilst also having to take into account the technical requirements of Kinect and the in-game camera angles from a first-person viewpoint. Working on the Hero was a real privilege, especially as his hands and their use of magic are the central mechanic of the game.I was also responsible for animating various environmental objects, which ranged from a mixture of doors and pillars, through to aqueducts exploding and giant boulders rolling. These were all great experiences for me to learn motion capture, motion builder and Unreal physics.‘Fable Heroes’ (Xbox 360, XBLA)Fable Heroes started as a “Creative Day” project where the team asked if I could concept, animate and produce the next Lionhead Logo intro video. Due to other work commitments, I worked on this in my spare time as it was a great opportunity for me to improve my skills. I then presented my work to the CEO of Lionhead and after he signed off on the render, it was used in Fable Heroes and you can view this at the start of the game. To have created a Lionhead Logo intro from initial concept through to a finished render was a great learning experience, and I felt very honoured to be one of the few people at Lionhead to have made an intro video, as these are usually outsourced due to the high quality required.

Rigger

'Fable 3' (Xbox 360)Using Softimage XSI, my responsibilities were to rig IK and FK, skin and set up Havok entities such as cloth and ragdolls, whilst also animating various creatures and props. For Fable 3’s first downloadable content pack, I was also responsible for the entire idle and gesture animation set of one of the games new creatures, the Robotic Automaton named “Colin”.Working on Fable 3 was an amazing experience, and to have worked on a ‘AAA’ title as my first video game was a great feeling. I learned an enormous amount in this time, and it was amazing to work with such an incredibly talented animation department. Because of my enthusiasm, I was also asked to help demo the game at the 2010 “Eurogamer Expo”, which was a great, new experience for me to help represent the company externally.
