About Simon Forest
I am a mechanical engineer, member of OIQ, with a master's degree in applied sciences. I am recognized as an engineer who’s curious, creative, detail oriented, rigorous, autonomous, resourceful, hands-on and has a broad technical knowledge. I master engineering software tools like CAD for solid and surfaces geometry (SolidWorks, Catia, SolidEdge), CAM (MasterCam – multi-axis), FEA and CFD (Ansys), calculation tools (Matlab), and programming tools (Arduino). However, the asset that makes me unique is my working methodology; I like to study the projects, prepare them, and plan them meticulously and in detail before building solutions and resolving problems. In my work experience, that methodology has proven to be effective, realizing complex mechatronics assemblies in short periods of time and working as expected with a minimum number of iterations. What about my working experiences? At Bombardier Transportation, I was an interior design engineer responsible of the interior design of New-York City subway cars. I acquired strong skills in Catia for solid, sheet metal and surface modeling. I also learned sheet metal design and manufacturing. I did work in the Plattsburg’s manufacturing facility resolving production and design problems, understanding the better the relationship between design intent and production capacity.At Immersion Corporation Canada, I was a mechanical engineer specialized in developing prototypes and demos in the innovative field of haptics. I was responsible to build functional prototypes and demos that were showed in Consumer Electronic Shows and customers. I acquired multiple skills over the years there: CAD modeling in Solidworks, finite element analysis of harmonic systems in Ansys, programming Matlab for realtime measurements and complex calculations, programming MasterCAM and machining plastic and metal parts using 4-axis CNC machine, building composite parts, and soldering custom build electronic boards. It is also there that I learned and perfected my work methodology.At Novo Électronique and Innovobot, I was working as a mechanical engineer to provide engineering services to external customers. I worked for customers in the medical field, consumer products, research equipment, and gaming products.

Mon travail chez Novo fût une belle expérience dans le domaine du développement de produits et du génie conseil. J'ai aussi pu faire une incursion dans le développement des produits médicaux et la norme ISO 13485.Mon rôle d'ingénieur concepteur mécanique était surtout axé sur la technique: réalisation de calcul d'ingénierie, conception de modèle 3D et dessins de fabrication (Solidworks), sélection de composants, soumission, suivi de fabrication et réalisation de prototype. As a mechanical engineer in the field of haptics with Immersion, I have to be really creative to build demos for shows, working prototypes for customers, proof of concept prototypes for patents and tools to build all these. I have also a research aspect in my job; looking for papers, documenting all my work and findings, reporting to my colleagues, etc. My tasks also include generating new ideas that may be transform in patents in the field of haptics. I am also the leader regarding engineering tools network and maintenance: Solidworks, MasterCam and Ansys.
