I also researched and recommended a purchase that would fulfill a business requirement to get their backups offsite. I expanded the TSM backup to incorporate all of the production environment that was not being backed up when I started. I also evaluated the whole back environment and made recommendations for future enhancements and/or system replacement. I am currently responsible for 135 production servers (clients) backups, managing 180+ TB of data.

We also installed and configured 2 Operations Center servers, and 2 Frontsafe servers and 2 Frontsafe DB servers. The TSM servers ran on Linux platforms. Our clients were also on Windows platforms. We also used TSM TDP for SQL.We were an all disk operation. We were using the SP replication feature for our Disaster Recovery. I was responsible for TSM client software installs, TDP installs, and TSM server setups.

I was on a contract at Ford Motor Company. The job required administration of remote TSM servers from Ford's headquarters in Dearborn, Mi. I worked with a team that installed and configured the TSM software. We also monitored all backup and administrative jobs and resolved any issues that arose in day to day operation. We were administered 50 remote TSM servers, and backed up nearly 900 clients. In addition to my TSM administration duties, I was responsible for working with people in remote Ford locations to bring our service into their site. I did site assessments, recommended hardware appropriate to their needs and continued communications with them answering questions and coordinating efforts all the way through the installation. I was also involved in training end users to do tape rotations, restore operations, and general TSM uses and terminology.I was involved in an audit of procedures where we were working with several other IT areas to review our processes and procedures and to create new standards to ensure that we were backing the required data from all of the data owners.Additionally, I was involved in a "proof of concept" for a tape less backup system. We were installing and evaluating new hardware and software and making recommendations to Ford as to whether they should invest in the product. In a separate evaluation, we were testing an IBM TS3310 tape library that utilizes LTO3 technology and will replace the 3583.

The backup and recovery/disaster recovery area was my focus. I progressed from operating the backup systems on multiple platforms to administrating the TSM systems for the last year and a half. I also was the administrator of several Veritas Backup Exec servers. I managed and monitored the TSM server which runs on AIX. I created TSM domains and policy sets as well as backup and archive policies. I also controlled 10 backup servers located at remote offices and shops. During that time I have installed software including Windows 2000/2003 server, Veritas Backup Exec, and Tivoli Storage Manager. I have also installed workstation operating systems and software. My duties also included hardware installation and troubleshooting. I have experience with multiple tape drive systems ranging from 4mm to SDLT and LTO drives. I was responsible for the backup and recovery of all of the Windows Servers (150), AS400’s (6) and RS6000’s (20) at the corporate office of my company. I was also responsible for the tape library management. I was responsible for restores of data that had been lost due to viruses or deletions.I submitted a formal proposal for and I completed the conversion of the windows servers in the data center to Tivoli Storage Manager. I was the principle person who worked with our offsite storage provider for our backup tapes. I re-negotiated our contract with them which saved our company a minimum of $1000 per month. And I negotiated reductions in the costs of several hardware and peripheral purchases, saving thousands of dollars. I have also written successful business proposals to recommend these cost savings.
