Forrest’s earlier published 5-book IEE series provides the details for implementing IEE, which goes Beyond Lean Six Sigma and the Balanced Scorecard. His books are a primary body of knowledge reference for the ASQ’s Black Belt certification test. He has spoken as a keynote and given many presentations at conferences throughout the world. Forrest discovered that the techniques in this 1975 class were not only very applicable in product design but also in product test/assurance, a department that he was later transferred to. In 1980, Mr. Breyfogle transitioned to become a full-time internal IBM statistical consultant until the time he took a bridge to retirement in 1992 to found Smarter Solutions. From 1980 to 1992, Forrest’s full time job in IBM was to help people and organizations do things smarter through the wise application of statistical techniques. During the last twelve years with IBM, Forrest had a great statistician mentor, who helped him address very challenging and unique problems. The knowledge that Mr. Breyfogle gained through this coaching and some additional training provided a solid foundation for him to start challenging many business and statistical norms. Forrest started describing his do-it-smarter considerations approaches to others in IBM technical reports and his first book, Statistical Methods for Testing, Development, and Manufacturing (published by Wiley), which became available in 1992, the same year that he left IBM and founded Smarter Solutions. -
