Performed a multi-country data analysis using RStudio to estimate correlates for disengagement in the 90-90-90 HIV cascade among female sex workers, then drafted results for a research manuscript for publication in academic journal

Worked in the Epidemiology and Surveillance Branch (ESB) in the Division of Global HIV & TB to create HIV surveillance country profiles, conduct literature review, write manuscripts, and perform data analyses.

Worked with the Emory COVID-19 Response Collaborative to help produce the Georgia Health Equity COVID-19 Dashboard through cleaning and analysis of data, and conducted usability testing sessions to improve dashboard attractiveness, operational ease of use, understandability, readability, and learnability.

Developed, implemented, and analyzed survey of international Institutional Review Boards using REDCap to investigate effectiveness of current research ethics regulations and international guidelines among global health research programs.

Strengthened existing and developed new training packages for use in capacity building of cancer support organizations in Sub-Saharan African countries to improve patient access to care and treatment.

Assisted in planning and implementing educational and behavioral management programs and in providing services that enable students with developmental or other learning disabilities an additional opportunity to benefit from education.

Over the course of two years as a Community Health Educator, I realized Peace Corps' slogan, "the toughest job you'll ever love" was true; behavior change is hard. But, during my time serving, I got the opportunity to learn along with my small, rural community in central Uganda. I was situated at a hospital and worked within the community to perform preventative health work. I focused on 5 areas: maternal child health, nutrition, HIV/AIDS education and prevention, malaria prevention, and water sanitation and hygiene. The work I did was diverse and included grant writing, event planning and implementation, data entry, monitoring and evaluation, hospital patient and staff education, and community outreach.

During my transition between my undergraduate work and Peace Corps, I worked with the Benco Team to support 10 cognitively impaired adults. Together we worked towards improving these adult's development of life skill techniques including public health areas like personal hygiene, disease prevention, and exercise. Along with this work, I performed meticulous documentation of behavior, daily programs, and health status.

During my last year studying at Oregon State, I fueled my extracurricular interest in biology and nature through working within the Integrative Biology Department, collecting and sorting aquatic insect samples. This job required meticulous attention to detail, documentation, and microscope use.

I assisted in research studies through the preparation of extracts for murine feeding studies to determine the effects of different phytochemical diet components. Along with this, I performed RNA extraction and cell culture to collect data from feeding studies and researched publications on molecular nutrition to aid in ongoing studies.

During a summer break from Oregon State University, I took part in an ongoing research project through Dr. Peter Kurre's Pediatric Cancer Research Laboratory. The project looked at the growth and division of stem cells in Fanconi Anemia to help in understanding bone marrow failure disorders. I assisted by arresting and counting human and murine chromosomes in metaphase to look at chromosome division during mitosis, performed polymerase chain reaction and ran gel electrophoresis to genotype mice, and extracted and hemolysed bone marrow from adult mouse femurs. I also determined the doubling time for two different cell lines. These laboratory projects required scrupulous accuracy, documentation, and attention to detail.
