Store Manager
Entailed managing a high-end retail pet goods store in one of Toronto's most densely dog-populated neighbourhoods. Consummate customer relations and an in-depth understanding of our products, our clients, and our industry were foundations of the business model. Annual gross sales peaked at $750,000 during my tenure as store manager. Other duties included interviewing and hiring prospective employees, employee training, ringing through sales, balancing sales totals and cash at end-of-day, banking duties, maintaining a customer database of 1000+ clients, preparing quarterly sales reports using CATAPULT, merchandising, window displays, selection/review of new products, communicating with head office, system troubleshooting, and general maintenance of the property. Implementation of novel sales techniques and best practices helped the business increase overall annual sales by close to 25% over the course of an 18-month period. Due to the higher-end nature of the customer base and the boutique nature of the franchise, exemplary customer service and product knowledge were paramount. Additionally, as this was an independently owned franchise, and therefore smaller in nature, I would typically be working alone in the store for a minimum of 25 hours each week, performing all cleaning and upkeep duties.
Administrative Assistant
Providing support to the Director of the Business Cluster Policy Secretariat, and facilitating coordination for the team of five employees. Responsibilities included scheduling and organizing appointments, meetings and conferences; facilitating employee status changes and maintaining up-to-date contact information; typing letters, memoranda, emails and summary notes for distribution; proofreading and editing documents; sorting and distributing incoming correspondence, among other administrative duties. Well-honed organizational skills were a necessity in this position.
Artist
Contract work for the Montreal studios of the international video game developer and distributor, Electronic Arts (EA). Projects included creation of three fonts for use in their upcoming Need for Speed Nitro Nintendo Wii game, in-game background graffiti and character illustrations, as well as numerous vehicles' skin designs for this latest installment in their award-winning Need for Speed series. This contract also included user interface design and the creation of digital elements for use on web pages and at various functions to promote the game's release.
Advertisement Designer
Freelance advertising design for a lighting company based in Toronto and Montreal. Published ads have appeared locally in Toronto Life Magazine, Toronto Life City Guide, Design Lines Toronto, and The Globe and Mail, as well as in Plaisirs de Livre and Design Lines in Montreal, and Avenue Magazine in Alberta.
Database Clerk
Various data entry related to the ongoing Honours & Awards Volunteer Service Awards public recognition ceremonies. Duties included reviewing nomination forms, contacting nominators to ensure information completeness, data entry, proofreading of entries, preparation of materials to be mailed to recipients, guests and MPPs, assembly of items for distribution for the ceremonies and creation of files to RIMS standards.
