I lead the Research Software Engineering group, producing software to do research better.I was also acting Program Manager for my last 6 months.

Along-side and immediately prior to my PhD studies, I have been employed by the University as a Researcher and as a Teaching Assistant.This teaching assistant work including such things as marking and giving feedback to students.The research my lab was paid to perform was in the speech recognition and related areas.

I worked on project to allow Agile methodologies to be implemented.Particularly focusing on how we can implement them for mainframe systems.I learnt a lot about Agile methodologies, and more than most people would want to know about working with mainframe systems with development history spanning over 40 years.Primarily, worked on the mainframe testing software suite.This included implemented a domain specific testing language,and a software suite to automate the testing, and make writing tests easier.With its completion, we were able to update the processes for creating mainframe software (Business Process Requests), to comply with modern testing practices.Also produced a number of other tools such as A tool for developing tests based on specification spreadsheets.A proof of concept "compiler" that translated PL/I into java.Also worked on several OCR projects, and a tool for working with the network monitoring (interesting story as to why we were "proxying" TCP over HTTP).Primarily, I programmed in C#, with some Java projects.(Position was via an ACS Workplace Integrated Learning Scholarship)
