PhD in ecotoxicology and entomology, worked extensively investigating environmental impacts of pesticides and farming systems, ecology of farmland invertebrates, evidence-based environmental management, and more recently also evidence-based health technology assessment. Lots of experience designing and running ecotoxicological field experiments and plenty of hands-on experience with methods of reviewing quantitative environmental and health evidence, such as systematic reviews, systematic maps, meta-analyses, rapid reviews, weight-of-evidence assessments. I’m also involved in developing the Collaboration for Environmental Evidence Guidelines and Standards for evidence reviews, a member of the editorial boards of two jolly decent evidence-based scientific journals, an occasional member of various expert working groups, workshops and advisory panels, and generally involved in a range of activities to improve standards of primary and secondary research. I’m open to cross-disciplinary research bridging any of the aforementioned areas, including international collaboration, and I’d be happy to discuss research ideas… so drop me a line if any of this sounds interesting to you!I’m working with 17 other wonderful people in Southampton Health Technology Assessments Centre (SHTAC), an academic group with expertise in evidence critiquing and reviewing and health economics, based in the Faculty of Medicine at Southampton University here on the south coast of England. We are one of 11 teams in the UK contracted to provide independent Evidence Review reports for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and we also provide introductory training courses in evidence reviewing and health economics.
