I am a longtime professional writer and a psychotherapist (MA, LCSW). As a therapist, I offer private, confidential counseling to those dealing with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and trauma. I have particular expertise with grief and loss and my background as a professional writer informs my work with those struggling in their creative efforts. As a writer, I am most notably author of three acclaimed, internationally published novels: A Reasonable Madness (Birch Lane/Signet); Flight (Dutton/Signet) and Saving Elijah (Putnam). My articles, essays, and poetry have appeared an anthologies, literary magazines, and online periodicals such as McSweeney's, Forbes, BrainChild, American Writers Review, Bottom Line, and Ars Medica. My one act plays have been performed at the Theatre Artists Workshop/Connecticut, the St. Louis Actors Studio Labute New Theatre Festival, and other venues across the country. My full length plays, including "The Angel of Forgetting," a family drama with a psychological and supernatural mystery at its core, and "Five Days and Four Nights," a four character drama about two marriages in crisis and an affair, won or was a semi-finalist in a number of different national contests and had readings with Athena Theatre, Lark Theatre, and by March Forth Productions at "The Lambs," all in NYC. "Five Days, Four Nights" will have a reading on March 23rd, 2020 at the Palace Theatre in Stamford, CT: https://www.broadwayworld.com/connecticut/article/The-Palace-Theatre-Set-to-Launch-Scripts-On-Tap-Series-20191108. My full length plays are represented by Marta Praeger at the Robert Freedman Dramatic Agency in New York City, mp@bromasite.com, (212)840-5766. In 2018, my partner, Chris Carlson, and I were commissioned by a German film producer, Network Movie, to write a script for a psychological thriller feature film (a la Hitchcock or DePalma) adapting my first novel, A REASONABLE MADNESS. Chris and I are also developing a teleplay adaptation of my novel, SAVING ELIJAH, and written a pilot script. I speak to groups on "Coping with Loss," and "Creating Happiness," and I do "Write to Heal" Workshops, to help people use expressive writing as a path to inner healing. My psychotherapy website/blog is www.frandorf.com.
