Hello all! My name is Fran Irizarry (she/her), a North Carolina native who graduated from Stanford University in June of 2023 with a bachelor's degree in Linguistics and a minor in Education. During my years at Stanford, I was lucky enough to develop my passion for language, education, and student welfare/development, while honing my skills in writing, editing, and teaching, which have positioned me perfectly to enter a career in Editing or the Student Services. Additionally, having spend the last two years tutoring Korean nationals on Ringle, an English tutoring platform that allows students to work 1:1 with native English speakers, I have had the amazing opportunity to: 1. meet and work closely with individuals located around the world2. further develop my abilities in teaching and student development3. use my background in formal Linguistics to copy edit and ensure the quality and tone of texts across genres, ranging from application essays to professional corporate documents and presentations.During my Senior year at Stanford, I served as a Resident Assistant (RA) at Terra, Stanford's unofficial queer-themed co-op, where I worked on a team, as Financial Manager (FM), to build an inclusive and nurturing day-to-day environment for a body of ~50 students, as well as guarantee the success of various events in support of Stanford's queer community. In this position, I offered support to students from a variety of geographic, ethnic, gender, sexual, and psychological backgrounds, working with them to identify any university or outside resources that could aid in their academic and personal success. In the summer after graduation, I was presented the opportunity to serve as an EPASA (East Palo Alto Summer Academy) Fellow at Stanford's Haas Center for Public Service, where I worked with a team of Stanford Fellows to create and share a summer's worth of academic and social programming to a group of ~40 East Palo Alto youth at Menlo Atherton High School. By developing targeted curricula, social events, and excursions around the Bay Area, we built a community of care rooted in a desire to allow these youth to more actively envision a future for themselves, in- and outside of traditional educational experiences like college or university.As I begin my career, I look forward to further pursuing my passions and using my skills and abilities to make an impact on the world around me.Please contact me @ firizarr@alumni.stanford.edu or directly through LinkedIn.
