🌿 Some people have green fingers; others grow successful community projects. I enjoy being able to do both.From the outset, I’ve always had a desire to help people that, for whatever reason, are not able to do things for themselves. I started my career working in retail stores with a socially conscious or cooperative ethos and volunteering with young people not in education or training. I’ve spent over 15 years supporting vulnerable individuals, both in voluntary and paid roles. This has included tailored support, volunteer management and project coordination.Galvanising groups is my comfort zone and creating truly inclusive environments is an important aspect of this. Through attentive listening and empathy, I am able to put people at ease and help them build confidence in themselves. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻Community project coordination has also been a central theme throughout my working life. Whether it is delivering training for local community groups or fundraising, I am able to effectively engage a range of people through my work, including extremely vulnerable and socially isolated adults, and adults and young people with learning disabilities and mental health challenges. I believe this work has far-reaching benefits in that it helps to grow cohesive communities and create better places to live. I also believe some of the most effective change begins at grassroots level therefore I am very much motivated by social justice and championing causes at a local level. 𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲My educational background in Horticulture and the Masters degree in Landscape Architecture I am currently studying has equipped me with the desire and technical background to help change government policy around landscape planning and to give local people a voice in this area. I am able to support communities to articulate their concerns about new developments and any changes to their environment that will impact their health and wellbeing.I am always open to opportunities to utilise my unique combination of skills in community development, community engagement and landscape architecture to support, engage with, and advocate for people at the local community level.🌿 If you’re in the landscape architecture, horticulture or voluntary sector, I’d love to hear from you.
