With Adams County, I support the distribution of American Rescue Plan Act funding to community organizations providing mental health services and supports. Within this role, I act as a program manager for ARPA grantees working within the behavioral health space, facilitate a community of practice for Adams County co-responders and for ARPA grantees, and provide Mental Health First Aid and QPR trainings to Adams County staff. I support ongoing diversity, equity, and justice initiatives through work on Adams County's Equity and Justice Council and participate in state and local policy processes through my work on ACHD's Legislative Review Committee.

I provide consultation and technical assistance to Boulder County's Vape Aware program in support of expanding vape collection through community education and policy initiatives.

With Boulder County Public Health, I worked in tobacco control with a specialization in environmental tobacco exposure. My work with the agency encompassed three main areas of focus: vape product waste stewardship, upstream determinants of health and tobacco-related outcomes, and environmental health-related policy. Much of my focus within BCPH was on expanding and supporting a community-based, innovative program aimed at reducing environmental vape product waste. This involved stakeholder analysis and education, policy research and advocacy (specifically surrounding extended producer responsibility laws), creating and disseminating community surveys (employing principles of health literacy and numeracy), and writing and securing a $450,000 grant to expand vape product waste collection and community education.

With the Johns Hopkins Center for Injury Research and Policy, I assisted with development of a campaign aimed at increasing safe storage and safe disposal of opioid medications, including: (a) developing and implementing social media recruitment strategies for key informant interviews and focus group discussions, (b) conducting key informant interviews and focus groups; analyzing interview responses for themes, (c) using gathered data to draft themes, concepts, and messages for a subsequent health communication campaign, and (d) drafting reports, presentations, and manuscripts as needed. I am also assisting in the development of curriculum for a Winter Intersession course for undergraduate students on principles and practices of injury prevention. I also created and maintained social media accounts using Microsoft Suite and Canva to promote the Center’s work

Dr. Springer's project is a qualitative research analysis of the conversation surrounding the #MeToo movement, including discussion of public discourse, the impact of race/gender on experience, and the implications of stigma on disclosure. On this project, I am aiding in qualitative data analysis and coding, conducting literature reviews, and manuscript drafting. Our resulting article was just published online in the journal Health Communications.

With Chancelight, I worked as an RBT providing targeted behavioral interventions for youth on the autism spectrum. This work included implementing individualized education plans, collecting data, and assessing both the efficacy of programming and the student's progress.

Greater Denver Area

I worked on a Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment grant with Inner City Health Center that focused on increasing rates of breast and cervical cancer screenings among Colorado's Medicaid population. With Inner City, I created partnerships with local organizations and conducted community outreach (including creating and giving culturally competent presentations on breast and cervical health). I was involved in collecting community resources for distribution to community members and acting as a services navigator for at-risk women. Finally, I was tasked with collecting data and reporting on progress using grant-specified procedures.

I assisted the project's PI in transcribing and coding interviews on pregnancy-related expectations and experiences. I also used SPSS for statistical analysis of coded data sets.

As a VISTA member, I participated in many health-related activities typical of nonprofits. The majority of my work dealt with the creation and implementation of health-related programming in Title 1 elementary schools and the development of educational materials tailored to various groups (students, parents, teachers, community members, etc.). This included creating materials for and leading several workshops targeting elementary school students. I also gained experience collaborating with school wellness teams and other community health organizations, including the county Department of Public Health and Wellness and Weld County Nutrition Services, to offer educational events. Finally, I had the opportunity to engage in both grant and policy writing, skills that have provided me with a better understanding of how to seek funding for public health initiatives.
