My school catered for 210 learners over multiple sites, including Post 16.I have worked in a variety of roles across mainstream primary, secondary and special/AP from SENCo, Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion (responsible for SEN, EAL, Welfare, Disadvantaged/PPG), safeguarding and behaviour), to an advisory teacher for a local authority. The latter role involved advising schools across all phases on effective support for children that appeared to have AEN/SEN and or EAL/Literacy type difficulties, who had not necessarily been diagnosed. I worked closely with our team of Educational Psychologists around this. My role as an advisory teacher evolved into taking on the responsibility for Speech and Language across the borough, working alongside speech and language therapists and specialist support assistants who were part of my team.I am highly experienced in all areas of SEND/Inclusion, a champion of children and passionate about lifelong learning.Last but certainly not least, I am also a practising Artist- ART IS FOR LIFE :)Art is my therapy.Surname Akinde - pronounced ah-kin-deh

Send Hub Co-LeadBameed Send Jan 2023 - Presenthttps://www.bameednetwork.com/regional-network/bameed-send/BAMEedSEND was formed to address both the issues we see in education around the intersectionality between race and special needs and to highlight the under-representation of educators from marginalised communities in special education. A 2019 report from the University of Oxford highlighted that ethnic minority children are not equally identified with special needs.‘Children of ethnic minority groups are over-represented for some types of needs and underrepresented for other types, compared to white British pupils’ (Professor Steve Strand, Department of Education, University of Oxford, 2019) Our aims are:1. To raise awareness around the needs of BAME pupils with special educational needs/ disabilities2. Offer support to specialist BAME educators who are working to support our pupils to thrive3. To work together with our allies to eradicate racism in education. -
