I’ve been an educational leader at San Francisco Bay Area independent schools for over twenty-five years, creating and directing learning support programs at three Bay Area independent schools and serving twice as president of the Northern CA branch of the International Dyslexia Association. I have expertise with a variety of learning differences— most notably language-based learning differences such as dyslexia, as well as ADHD— and have extensive training in structured literacy approaches proven successful for teaching reading and writing skills. I’m inspired by the creativity of crafting individualized and engaging lessons for my students, and by cultivating personal connections with each one to develop fun, safe, and rewarding relationships.I love teaching people of all ages, including helping parents understand their child’s learning profile by taking complex learning processes and explaining them in easy-to-understand language. I listen, ask questions, and problem-solve with parents and teachers, while taking a practical approach to strategy intervention for supporting students at school and home. Mentoring and teaching educators through various workshops and teacher training seminars has been a fulfilling part of my career. As a consultant, I work with schools to guide them when creating a new learning support department or when restructuring and improving an existing department. I use a collaborative, problem-solving approach, and bring decades of experience to help schools grow as they strive to teach each student with insight, care, and compassion. My private practice services include:One-on-one educational therapy for students from kindergarten through high school, both online and in-person Administration of standardized educational assessments to screen for indicators of language-based learning differences such as dyslexia that can affect reading, spelling, written expression, academic fluency, and other academic areas Consultation with schools to help develop or improve their educational support programs
