I'm a Consultant Clinical Psychologist working in dementia care for over 15 years, an NHS Clinical Entrepreneur, and founder of 6D-Dementia. With support from Techstart, I have developed a prototype for an online training programme for carers and health and social care staff. With support from Innovate UK, we are building the online training platform.Working in the Northern Health and Social Care Trust, I developed CLEAR Dementia Care. CLEAR Dementia Care won the Innovation of the Year at the 2016 Alzheimer Society Dementia Friendly Awards. Its proven track record includes improved clinical outcomes, reduced distress, and financial savings. CLEAR Dementia Care established successful training programs delivered to NHS trusts, care homes and voluntary organisations in the UK and healthcare organisations in Jersey and the Republic of Ireland. I developed the CLEAR Dementia Care App which is free to download from the App Store and Google Play.CLEAR-AI, a ground-breaking project, is one of only 24 successful projects selected worldwide in the inaugural round of the Longitude Prize for Dementia. CLEAR-AI was developed in partnership with Ulster University’s Prof Condell, Age NI and the Public Health Agency Northern Ireland. CLEAR-AI leverages technology to implement CLEAR Dementia Care, working toward a personalised AI model for remote care, to enable people with dementia to remain in their homes for as long as possible. I have published best practice papers in dementia commissioned by the Public Health Agency and the British Psychological Society including guidelines on managing behaviours that challenge. I was a member of the Northern Ireland Dementia Improvement Collaborative who produced the Regional Dementia Care Pathway, a current committee Member British Psychological Society Faculty of the Psychology of Older People, NI Division of Clinical Psychology, and a member of the Department of Health Enhancing Clinical Care Framework in Care Homes project.
