When it comes to my clients' products, relationships and projects, I get the legals sorted. I'm an experienced (>15PQE) corporate and commercial lawyer with expertise in financial services regulation. I help platform operators, responsible entities/trustees, managers, custodians, superannuation trustees, financial advisers and other AFS licensees achieve their business goals in a way that works within their regulatory environment. My experience spans senior private practice and in-house legal roles.In 2021 I joined Hive Legal as Special Counsel. Hive combines continuous improvement with a fixed pricing approach that focuses on what the client values most. This allows for a positive client experience and an exceptional work environment. Within Hive I have roles on the Senior Leadership Team, Pricing team, AI team, Compliance Committee, Social Media Committee and client experience improvement initiatives. Previously I was senior legal adviser at an agile ASX200 fintech company, supporting its growth and IPO, fostering compliance and helping my business partners build the legal components of sustainable business relationships. I began my career at a leading national firm. I also had the privilege of managing a pro bono service assisting clients experiencing homelessness, a role that taught me about the trust a client reposes in their lawyer, and the importance of deserving and preserving that trust. I believe the so-called soft skills such as nonjudgmental listening, knowing how to prioritize ruthlessly and showing care and kindness are at least as important as technical expertise. I enjoy providing a lovable service. I solve legal problems 'once and well' and keep an eye out for systems improvement opportunities. I keep across legaltech developments and also think more broadly about what innovation can mean in different contexts. I am experienced in agile transformation of the in-house legal function and have attained Professional Scrum Master certification to better serve tech clients. The agile principles familiar to software developers have much to offer lawyers and their clients and are consistent with the innovation the legal profession needs. As a parent of a young family, I am glad flexible working has hit the mainstream. Lawyers and the individuals they assist are humans, not cardboard cutouts. When we can and do bring our whole selves to work, everyone wins.
