I am currently working as an English Language Assistant at IES Jorge Manrique, a public secondary school in Madrid. My role is giving conversation classes to reduced groups to all age groups within the school. I really enjoy this position as it, firstly, allows me to make full use of my creativity when planning lessons and teach in a more flexibly style compared to normal classroom teaching. Secondly, working with other teachers and language assistants has been invaluable in terms of learning from others with more experience and being able to witness firsthand varying teaching styles.

I am currently an English language tutor for private clients in Madrid. I teach children from two different families between 9 and 13 years old, and I also have one adult client. I took up tutoring as a way to diversify my teaching experience as I had previously never taught students one-on-one. Secondly, I wanted to save some money in order to travel while living in Spain.My private tutoring is very enjoyable for me, I feel that I have a good professional relationship with my clients and that they benefit a lot from my classes. It is particularly satisfying to see their improvement over time.

I worked at IES Complutense for 9 months from 2015 to 2016. It was such a good first experience working as an English Language assistant in Spain that I decided to renew for a second year of teaching. The students at this school came from quite diverse social and economic backgrounds which was initially quite challenging, however I believe that I benefited hugely from the experience. My classroom and behaviour management skills improved by a great deal, and I became more flexible as a teacher and lesson planner.

While working in two summer camps in Spain for example I learnt to manage larger groups of students and overcome problems with motivation within the groups. As one of three teachers in the secondary section of the Inglaterra en Casa Summer School I was also responsible for planning and leading weekly 3 hour long afternoon activities which involved close collaboration with the other teachers and monitors.

During the summer of 2014 I was the Language teacher and general assistant (English, French and Spanish) in a summer adventure camp in the French Alps. My role was wide ranging and consisted of planning and giving lessons in all three languages to children from several countries and between 9 and 16 years old; besides the lessons I was a mentor and general assistant to all the children at the camp and was involved in daily activities from 8am until 10pm during the camp's duration (2 months). During my time working at the summer camp I believe I really learnt to think outside the box and use my creativity in my lesson plans and evening activities. In particular I made use of the surrounding environment such as incorporating activities in the local French market and crêpe restaurant as goals for my lessons.

My first teaching experience as an English language assistant in 3 French secondary schools was the most challenging, not only due to having moved abroad at 18 years old, but also because of the large differences between the schools and their education system in comparison to the British system. However I believe it was also an extremely rewarding experience, aside from maturing as a person, but moreover I learnt to become very adaptable as a teacher and my confidence grew hugely.
