Full Professor Of TransportationUniversitat Politècnica De Catalunya Jun 2002 - PresentBarcelonaProfessor of Transportation at BarcelonaTech, Civil Engineering School, since 2002. I have been Director of the Civil Engineering School at Barcelona from 2004 to 2007 and before I was Academic Secretary from 1997 to 2004. I have been also Director of CENIT (Center for Innovation in Transport) since 1006 to 2013.During all these years my research areas and interests have been changing, but I remain faithful to Scientific Method and the service perspective of mobility that includes operations, stakeholder behavior and economics. My initial interests were logistics (vehicle routing models and software based on metaheuristics and logistics platforms and centers) and airports (capacity, process management, baggage handling, landside access). Then I started working on bus network design and management, research line that I still keep active with Dr. Miquel Estrada. In 1995 I started working on pricing designing the transit fare integration system of Barcelona (implemented in 2001) and in 1999 I started working on toll highways and road pricing as well as traffic analysis and travel time forecasting, research line that I keep active. Since 2008 I have been involved in urban mobility, the future of urban transportation and what I call "Mobility 4.0" in analogy to "Industrial Revolution 4.0" that is ready to come.I have also been involved in professional projects dealing with transportation planning, mobility management and pricing including TDM (transportation demand management) and TOD (Transit oriented development) , transportation project feasibility analysis / appraisal, and some modal incursions into port / harbor / harbour operations, container terminal layout and optimization and even city planning / accessibility analysis, etc. -
Director Of Bit - Barcelona Innovative Transportation At BarcelonatechUniversitat Politècnica De Catalunya Sep 2016 - PresentBarcelonaBIT (Barcelona Innovative Transportation) is the research group devoted to optimize transportation, mobility and logistics at BarcelonaTech. We have been recognized by the Catalan Government as a "consolidated research group" in Catalonia. We are five full-time professors and several PhD and Masters students. Our research lines and interests range from traffic data analysis and travel time estimation, cooperative and autonomous vehicles, ridesharing and shared systems (bicycles, motorcycles and cars), buses network design / layout and management, city logistics, port operations and risk analysis, road pricing, airport processes and urban mobility. My interest in future urban mobility started when the European Parliament chose 6 Professors in Europe to think about the future of transportation in Europe in 2050 and I was assigned the topic of "Future Urban Transport", back in 2009. I wrote my reflections and presented them in the European Parliament and have given a number of classes and seminars on the topic, some of them addressed to BEST, Board of European Students on Technology. This topis includes Mobility as a Service, electric mobility, Autonomous Vehicles, Apps for taxis and MaaS, big data, IoT, etc. I have experience with on-demand bus services, park and rides, high occupancy vehicle lanes, traffic ramp metering and gate metering for traffic lights, transit network design and management, transit signal priority, ridesharing, MaaS, etc. (besides more traditional urban mobility tools such as pedestrian and bicycle, personal mobility devices, traffic, transit, and urban freight distribution). -

Advanced Logistics Group S.A.
