Dr Francesca de Rosa is the Chief Scientist at the Center for Advanced Preparedness and Threat Response Simulation (CAPTRS). Before joining CAPTRS, she worked for 12 years with the NATO Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (former NATO Underwater Research Centre), where she served as scientist in the Maritime Security and Data Knowledge and Operational Effectiveness teams. Her work has focused on defence and homeland security applications, such as counter-terrorism, critical infrastructure protection, energy security and strategic asset protection. Her main research areas include simulation games, wargames, serious games, cognitive engineering, knowledge engineering and human-system interaction, with a special focus on surveillance and situational awareness. She has been an adjunct professor at the University of Genoa (Italy) in Computer Games and Simulation. Moreover, she is a board member of the Serious Game Society. Along her career she supported technology development in all phases (i.e., concept development, design, experimentation, scale-up and uptake), leading human-system integration and cognitive engineering activities. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, a Master Degree in Water and Soil Management Engineering and a Ph.D. in artificial intelligence (Interactive Cognitive Environments).
