I am a recent graduate from Indiana University Bloomington with a Master's in Public Health, specifically in Environmental and Occupational Health. My previous research focused on passive surveillance of respiratory, communicable, and vector-borne diseases within the community and tracking circulation patterns. Using wastewater-based epidemiology, I assist in the monitoring and molecular analysis of SARS-CoV-2, RSV, Influenza A/B, Human Adenovirus F41, Lyme disease, and West Nile Virus. From this project and past academic projects, I have brief experience in grant writing, conducting a community needs assessment, drafting an intervention proposal, and writing epidemiological research studies for future publication.

Graduate Research AssistantIndiana University Bloomington Oct 2022 - Jul 2024Bloomington, Indiana, United States-Assisted in the design and implementation of research study protocol, data collection techniques, and methodologies-Monitored and tracked the spread of viral pathogens of respiratory diseases (SARS-CoV-2, RSV, Influenza A, Human Adenovirus F-41, Adeno-associated Virus 2), vector-borne diseases (West Nile Virus and Lyme Disease), and communicable diseases (Hepatitis A and Coxsackieviruses) through the collection of wastewater samples-Compared viral load concentrations and viral shedding rates between the Indiana University campus and population of Bloomington, Indiana-Performed molecular analysis of samples through extraction of RNA/DNA, real-time PCR, digital PCR and/or DNA sequencing-Calculated the viral load concentration of SARS-CoV-2, RSV, and Influenza A to baseline PMMoV and viral load concentration of Human Adenovirus F-41, Adeno-associated Virus 2, SARS-CoV-2, West Nile Virus, and Lyme disease to baseline crAssphage in genomic copies per Liter-Compiled, visualized, and extrapolated quantitative data using RStudio and Microsoft Excel to display infection rates and viral load averages-Compared regions of genomic similarity of Adenovirus DNA sequences using NIH BLAST software-Conducted scientific literature reviews, synthesized study findings, interpreted results and authored all sections of corresponding final manuscript -
Seasonal Field TechnicianVector Disease Control International (Vdci) Aug 2020 - Aug 2022Chicago, Illinois, United States-Monitored incidence of West Nile Virus and aided in abatement efforts to reduce community exposure to positive populations-Set up and collected 50 Gravid and BG-Sentinel mosquito traps weekly for commercial and residential clients -Collected wastewater samples throughout the Chicagoland area to identify Aedes and Culex species and record associated characteristics (species type, sex, and life cycle stage) for more targeted larvicide treatment-Identified and quantified Aedes and Culex species from daily traps for input into the Zoonotic Disease Tracker database-Inspected stagnant water sources (pools, sewers, and discarded tires) and treated with FourStar, MetaLarv XRP, and ALTOSID XR briquete larvicide to control high density larvae and adult populations -Addressed and investigated residential mosquito complaints, drafted formal standing water reports, and applied briquete larvicide to all effected sites -Sprayed Zenvex insecticide in neighborhoods with confirmed cases of West Nile Virus, working under supervision of the Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation -
Undergraduate Research AssistantLoyola University Chicago Jan 2017 - May 2017Chicago, Illinois, United States-Collected and prepared on-site soil samples from former smelting sites in Chicago to analyze levels of nutrients, heavy metals, and metalloids using an ICP-MS instrument-Performed comprehensive laboratory analysis and assessed quality indicators for water samples (pH, alkalinity, TDS, hardness, conductivity, and trace metal concentrations)-Utilized EPA standards as a benchmark to quantify heavy metal concentrations in soil and water and extrapolate research findings via statistical analysis-Maintained laboratory equipment and analytical instruments, ensuring full calibration and proper functioning-Compiled all research protocol, methodology and findings into final report to inform further environmental health implications
